Observation and Reflection from a Typhoon

On 24 july 2012 , typhoon Vincente arrived and Typhoon signal no.10 was hoisted . It was a powerful typhoon which struck Hong Kong hard. The Hong Kong observatory issued the hurricane signal, No.10, the first since York in 1999.

  Typhoon Vincente brought down thousands of trees and sent debris crashing into down town streets as people made their way home from work,being told to take shelter . Ferry , bus and train services were stopped . Some commuters had to stay in the MTR station on that night.

  From the news I knew that Typhoon Vincente had brought much inconvenience to many people. Those who tried to continue their journey to thrie destination despite of the danger blamed the MTR.

  Corporation for poor service. They thought that the company of MTR must be responsible for them . Isympathized  with these people as it is really very inconvenient for them.

  However, I think that the staffs of the MTR corporation had already done their best in providing hot water and some hard cardboard for the commuters . Passengers sould be considerate and understand that it is out of safty that the train services had to br suspended . I think if everyone is not so self-centered and more considerate , there will ne less disputes and Hong Kong will be a more harmonious place to live in .

  From the news I also knew that there were many plastic pellets left at Shek Pai Wan , Lamma Island . The plastic pellets will affect the marine organisms, for examples fish may die.

  I do appreciate the volunteers who go to the beaches to help with the clearing of the plastic pellets . I think it is great that there are so many young people who care about the environment and contribute their time and effort to help in keeping the environment clean . It is really a very good civic education should think about and learn from them.

Cooking and Food

I like eating very much. My favorite foods are sushi, pasta, udon, etc. Our family always goes out and has dinner, cos my mother is very busy. When she get off work and come back, the market is start to tidy up the things. But, we don't have any complaints. Because, my mum doesn't like cooking, she feels that is too tired after work and she doesn't want to think about the dishes every day. Also, sometimes I want to eat outside because many restaurants I can chose in the shopping mall near my house. There has Japanese food, Italian food, Chinese food, Fast food, etc. It is delicious.

 

Sometimes, my mum will cook for me. I like eating crab and I feel my mum cook's crab with rice cake is very delicious of the world.

In our family, hot pot is very popular because it is easy to prepare and vary is big. We can have seafood, meat, vegetables and my favorite food - Udon. I like the soup is tomato with potato soup. It is brimming vitamin A, good for our eyes. Moreover, our family likes eating ice cream in the winter. Because the ice cream will not easy to melt and it have a flavor. So after dinner, we always eat ice cream and sit on the sofa to watch TV in the winter. My favorite tastes are green tea, banana, macadamia nuts and chocolate, Yummy!

My mum always asks me that "How about you’re cooking?”. My answer forever is "Um...". But I think that a girl must know how to cook. So, I will learn how to do it well and cook a meal for my mum and give her a surprise. I wish I can fulfill this promise in the future.

My Learning Experience - Joy and Challenges

The results of the 2012 Hong Kong Diploma Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination were released on 20 July, 2012.This year, 72,620 candidates sat the examination. A total of the 26,431 day school candidates have met the general entrance requirements for four-year undergraduate university programmers.

Next year will be my first important difficult of my life. I know that not only me, my friend, other S.6 students. They should confront too. In fact, I was so scared. Because I know I'm not elite student and my learning is not significant. So, I should try hard and used properly my summer vacation. However, I must improve my speaking skills. It Is the worst of my portion with listening.

Then, I will try to read more English news paper, English books and which more movie with English to learn more practical vocabulary. I hope it can make more abundant of my vocabulary. If my vocabulary rich, it can help my academic's difficult and I can score more mark. I know it is toilsome but I must keep hard in order to my future the sake of. I think that I have in addition to do exercise; I must review the vocabulary every day.  This method is to be useful. Moreover, I love watch drama very much. Maybe I can watch English drama with my friend. Ha-Ha! It is very good idea. I can find the amusing in learning English. See you next year!

My First Encounter with African Culture - Music and Dance

This is my first time attempt the African drum. I feel it is very interesting and amazing. Before I attempt that, I just feel this activity is boring and can't make us Interested in this.

That day after lunch, I went to school with my friends. We had OLE activity about African Culture- Music and Dance. We were waiting the tutor taught us how to play the African drum. At the same time, when we were waiting, the weather was so hot and we started to impatient. Then, the activity was started. First, the tutor taught us some important basic beat and some student can try to play. That moment, I felt very shock because the beat was so unanimous and it was very powerful. My friend Mary said that the sound like a army. I approve Mary's metaphor

I look at each student, they were concentrate one's attention on play the African drumming and make it can have more momentum. After that, the tutor taught us put the beat, music and dance mixing. I felt it is very funny because the tutor's dance. Then, the tutor invited some student to dance together. But some student was so shy they don't dance too exaggeration. I felt those student were brave, at least they had not refuse the tutor. Fortunately, I have not been invited by the tutor Ha-Ha!

Drawing to a close, Mr. Hu has dancing with the tutor together. We were very happy because this was rare. At last after this activity, I have to change my opinion. I felt this activity about African Culture- Music and Dance was very interesting. I will want to play the African drum again next time.
